Before You Start

Measuring Your Window - Where To Fit Your Track/Pole To make sure you have the best possible fit, please take the time to measure your window carefully.

Please provide measurements for your window, we will work out the size for each curtain in the pair including how much fabric is needed for correct fullness.

We recommend fitting the curtain tracks or poles first and measuring to them. We also recommend overlapping each side of the window recess by 15-30cm and fitting them around 12-15cm above the window, though sometimes you might decide to fit a curtain track inside the window frame.

It is important to make sure that any track, pole or other fitting is even and level before measurements are taken.

All measurements should be taken using a metal tape measure, and all measurements should be in centimetres and millimetres.

Measuring Window Widths

Measuring the Window Width for Single Tracks

Measuring Window Widths - Single Tracks Measure your track from one end to the other.

For single (non-overlapping) tracks add 2.5cm to allow hanging curtains to overlap in the middle when they are closed.

Measuring the Window Width for Poles

Measuring Window Widths - Poles Measure from the inside of one decorative end (finial) to the inside of the other decorative end.

For poles add 2.5cm to allow hanging curtains to overlap in the middle when they are closed.

Measuring the Curtain Drop

Measuring Window Drops Decide whether you want your curtains to fall to the sill, below the sill or to the floor. Sill length curtains normally finish 1.5cm above the sill; curtains that fall below the sill usually finish 15cm below the sill; floor length curtains generally finish 1.5cm from the floor.

If you want your curtains flush with the sill or the floor then we recommend measuring the drop in three places (either side and middle) and using the smallest of these three measurements to avoid the curtains dragging.

Measuring the Curtain Drop from Poles with Rings & Hooks

Measuring Window Drops - from a pole The normal headings for poles with a ring and hook are the Pencil Pleat and Pinch Pleat. Measure from the bottom of the ring (the point where the hook attaches to the ring). This will prevent the pole or rings being obscured by the curtain material.

Measuring Window Drops - from a pole with eyelets Measure from the very top of the pole. DO NOT add anything for the fabric above the pole height; we will add 4cm to the drop for the fabric to sit above the pole.

Measuring Window Drops - from a rail Whatever the type of curtain rail, and whatever type of hook or runner, measure from the very top of the rail.

Our lined curtains come with a quality Sateen twill lining, which is a durable cotton fabric with a lustre resembling that of satin.

Blackout Lining

You can specific blackout lining as an option; sleep soundly at night by blocking out the light that gets through normal curtains.

Pinch pleat is a decorative heading for curtains and valances, suitable for all types of curtain track and pole; pinch pleats are more gathered than other headings and have permanent sewn-in pleats for a more luxurious, tailored look

Eyelets

Eyelet heading is a modern, contemporary alternative for use with curtain poles, folding curtains into large even pleats; the eyelets have an internal diameter of 40mm and are suitable for curtain poles with a diameter of up to 30mm
